Laboratory Facility

The Department of Fashion Design & Technology at Sonargaon University is committed to excellence in hands-on creative and technical education. Our laboratories serve as the hub for innovation, where students apply pattern-making, garment construction, textile science, and digital design tools to real-world fashion and apparel challenges.

Pattern Lab

Pattern Lab is a practical learning facility where students gain hands-on experience in pattern making and garment development. It helps students develop technical skills in pattern drafting, pattern manipulation, grading, sample making, and fit analysis, preparing them for professional careers in the fashion industry.

Key Equipment

Pattern tables (11 units) for drafting, grading, and sample development, accommodating up to 22 students in Room 605.

Learning Focus

Bodice and variation, knitwear pattern drafting, advanced pattern making for children's wear and lingerie, and variation of bottoms.

Draping Lab

A Draping Lab is a practical learning space where students create garment designs by draping fabric directly on a dress form. It helps students develop skills in fabric handling, design development, fit, and pattern creation.

Key Equipment

Pinnable mannequins (18 units) for fabric draping, accommodating up to 36 students in Room 609.

Learning Focus

Design and draping of evening gowns, and basic draping techniques.

Sewing Lab

Sewing Lab is a practical learning space where students learn and practise garment construction using sewing machines and equipment. It helps students develop skills in sewing techniques, finishing, quality control, and sample garment production.

Key Equipment

Single needle lock stitch, double needle lock stitch, and double needle chain stitch machines (17 units), accommodating up to 17 students in Room 408.

Learning Focus

Sewing technology, sewing machine engineering and attachments, and basic garment construction.

Computer Lab

A Computer Lab is a practical learning space where students develop digital fashion design skills using industry-standard software such as Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. It helps students create fashion illustrations, technical drawings, presentation boards, and digital product development (PD) materials.

Key Software

Computers (32 units) running Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop, accommodating up to 32 students in Room 411.

Learning Focus

Garments CAD, product development and re-engineering, and computing for designers (E-Fashion).

Chemistry Lab

The Chemistry Laboratory provides practical knowledge of textile chemicals, dyes, and testing methods. It enables students to analyze fibre properties, evaluate dyeing and printing quality, test chemical performance, and ensure colour fastness and fabric quality according to industry standards.

Key Equipment

HPHT lab dyeing machine (24-pot × 450ml capacity), hand-driven twist tester, Beesley's balance (count tester), digital moisture meter, digital electric balance, GSM cutter, digital fabric thickness tester, crock meter, grey scale, wrap reel, counting glass, hygrometer, digital pH meter, digital thermometer, Shirley comb sorter machine, and glassware including pipette bulbs, watch glasses, burettes, volumetric flasks, funnels, volumetric pipettes, test tube racks, filter paper, scissors, screen frames, measuring jars, and a sample dyeing machine, accommodating up to 30 students in Room 606.

Learning Focus

Dyeing, printing and finishing for apparel, and testing of textiles.

Knitting Lab

The purpose of a knitting lab is to provide hands-on training with knitting machinery, teach fabric construction and stitch structures, enable knitwear prototyping, and prepare students for technical and production roles in the apparel industry.

Key Equipment

Circular knitting machine (single jersey) and flat bed knitting machine (3 units), located in Room 101.

Learning Focus

Cut & sew knitwear, and fully fashioned knitwear.
